Sam’s Snow-Tubing Trip

It was back in March, but I’m just getting around to putting the videos up. This one is worth the wait.

An odd idea about rewards

Sam: “I’m going to put a banana peel on your head so you can be King of Banana World.” He then added, “You can have monkeys as pets!”

Long overdue update #1

Yeah, yeah — I know I don’t update enough.

Sam is doing great. How’s that?

He’s reading second-grade books by himself (current favorite: the Nate the Great series) and doing “subtraction to 20.” (The sequence in school is addition to 10, subtraction to 10, addition to 20, subtraction to 20.)

The other day he said, “I feel bad for the kids who are still doing addition to 10.”

Snow Day!

We got hit with about eight inches, which in Richmond is cause for panic. The snow came Sunday night, and schools were closed Monday and Tuesday, then opened late Wednesday and Thursday. Weather wimps.

Still, it was Sam’s first major snow in at least three years.

Flag football

Although Sam decided that he really didn’t want to play, we got two weeks of flag football in this fall. He was number 2.

Some things he’s not ready for

While we were all driving somewhere, Sam started talking about airplanes crashing — then he clarified it as airplanes crashing into buildings.

We had no idea where this would come from.

“Maybe they’re talking about 9/11 at school?” I ventured.

“What’s 9/11?” asked Sam.

“Never mind,” Karen and I said at once.
